Moe-mentum

So this little weekly writing session is already beginning to feel like a T.V. show for me in terms of ratings. I launched the pilot and a bunch of people reached out (awesome btw and thank you!) and told me that they enjoyed reading my words. Rating: 7 (whatever the hell, I just picked a number). The following week, a few more followers and some unlikely! (Woo..Eric V., my A bound buddy!) Rating: 15. We slipped down a few places there. Zoom zip and I wake up at entry number 3 or 4, with no new followers and 0 comments. Well, except for Patty, the super sub, who told me that my writing about time made her feel like her life has passed her by and that she’s old and useless! Nothing could be further from the truth Patty. You are loved, valued, and admired, especially for letting me know if we have track today….ok too many inside jokes already. Rating: 98. Damn, they’re going to put me in the Friday night time slot or even worse: perhaps the network will cancel this blog, but screw ’em! I’m going to write on and if you 8 loyal readers stick with me, then BRAVO! Or maybe you should set some higher goals….

Either way. I feel some momentum from your comments, and messages and so let’s explore momentum.

The Oxford Dictionary says: (well it reads…it doesn’t ‘say’ it unless you click the audio button)

mo·men·tum/mōˈmen(t)əm,məˈmen(t)əm/ noun

  1.  PHYSICS:the quantity of motion of a moving body, measured as a product of its mass and velocity.
  2.  The impetus gained by a moving object.”Moeschen gained momentum as he rolled down the steep hill”

Right. Somehow in my entire public school education, I escaped studying physics. Never did any in high school science, or in college. Since physics is the study of motion and I am already with myself all day; I have it covered. Henceforth (public school word that I use in class to confuse the kids), let us look more closely at definition number two. Look at it again. That’s ‘impetus’, not ‘impotence’…NO cheap jokes allowed in my blog.

These days ALL of us are moving objects. On Zoom meetings due to the pandemic? Yes, but you turn off your camera to pace (Furlong), get a snack (Falkin), check your phone (ALL of us), do something OTHER than the meeting (read a blog?). Decide you will relax on the couch and watch some Netflix? Not for long if you have children or need a beverage, or really want that blanket that you have to get up to get. Quietly read for a half hour? Unlikely as you begin to doze off (still awake reading this blog?) and snap upright thinking to yourself: I gotta get up and move before I fall asleep. Momentum. Society has learned us that we have to keep moving. Watch a few commercials on T.V. and you will see what I mean. Where’s the Audi commercial of the douche bag (me) simply SITTING in traffic? We never see that one….instead….always momentum. America runs on Dunkin’ (West coast peeps, google it, keep the momentum going).

Truth is: not a bad thing. While I type this, my wife is hammering in the kid’s closet putting up new shelves to store more stuff that we don’t need. Hey, the Amazon Prime Van just left them…gotta keep the momentum going. We are moving all the time. Dave Matthews great lyrics: All the little ants are marching….they all do it the same. We all do it the same way.

It’s good to keep the momentum going. Maybe it even helps the planet spin. While you are momentuming (verb: to momentum a lot) make sure you occasionally put your phone away, smell the outside air, look at a cloud, tree or the sunset and pause, if only for a moment(um). Hear that? See that? That’s beauty.

Stay safe, stay awesome, and stay tuned.

I always admired the momentum you had with the band kiddos. Even though Marissa was not made for band, you always kept it interesting and fun, great momentum!
