So I met a fellow spirited educator on a social media forum and we exchanged happy start the school year teaching messages. On top of living each day with 2 kids under age 8, and life with Muscular Dystrophy, I also teach middle school music full time. The woman I spoke with is a high school math teacher in Chicago and has spent time in public, magnet, and charter schools. She has actually stopped teaching after fifteen years due to burnout. She has now begun a site called www.lovemorty.com, which helps educators of all levels and skillsets feel valued and empty our overflowing buckets. I was recently featured on her podcast, sharing my love of education as well as highlights and lowlights of my current 27-year middle school music career…..Check it out when you have a moment. Every teacher in this country is struggling under the weight of too much to do and not enough hours. Sounds like everyone’s job right? Maybe THAT is the problem. This race has spiraled way out of control at the cost of our mental health.
